Children's Mental Health Week - 5th-9th February 2024
Monday 5th February
An award-winning alcohol awareness theatre production ‘Smashed’ came to see our year 8's this morning. Combining drama and a interactive workshop they helped our young people understand the facts, causes and consequences of alcohol misuses and the risks of underage drinking.
Year 8 then had a workshop with Everton Football Club, their session focused on the difference between a mental health problem and a mental illness. It also showed them how to recognise mental health problems and have practical ways 'to help out a mate', for example 'being smart like Alec'.
Tuesday 6th February
Today we had some very special visitors at lunchtime, Clare and Peter brought in their therapy dogs Ralfie and Paddy. Both staff and our young people enjoys lots of strokes and cuddles. It brought such a calming effect to our busy day. Evidence has shown that therapy dogs improves mood, in particular it can decrease feelings of anxiety and sadness as well as increasing physical activity. We couldn't agree more, we look forward to them visiting again on Thursday!
Thursday 8th February
On Thursday we welcomed Jas, Nick and Catherine from the Sefton Mental Health Team. They gave a our year 7's a workshop; explaining what mental health is, they looked at ways to look after your wellbeing and where you can go if you need support. Jas said "year 7 did great and brought a lot of brilliant ideas to the workshops, you should be proud of them as a cohort."
